Now then, what is a Christian DJ? As many of you know, and as mentioned in our biography, I gave my life back to Christ in December 2008. Never again looking back or questioning my decision. By far, the best one I've ever made. I remember asking God "what am I going to do now?". I felt like it was no longer an option to DJ in a secular atmosphere and DJ secular music. So what now? -- GOD, in His infinite wisdom, mercy and grace reminded me of Moses in front of the Red Sea -- "what do you have in your hand, Moses?" or better yet... "what do you have in your hand, Eddie?". And it hit me - "I DJ! So you want me to become a Christian DJ?". I heard nothing back, only chirps! I went to my pastor and had this conversation with him. About how God showed me Moses, the Red Sea, what do you have in your hand?, the staff in Moses' hand. I felt in my heart God was calling me to become a Christian DJ, yet I had no idea where to start. So we talked, we brainstormed new DJ names as my secular DJ name was perverse. Finally, after days of brainstorming, I called him and said "what about DJ 360?". My pastor replies, "well not bad, only that 360 degrees brings you back to the same place. What I believe you are trying to say is DJ 180, right?" I said, YES! 180! That's it! And in 2009, DJ 180 was born! 180 degrees from the world into the Kingdom of God. I turned my back to the world, I turned my back to the old me, I turned my back to the secular realm and although I am in this world, I do not belong to it! I now belong to Christ! So you see, a Christian DJ (in my opinion), is not someone who plays hymns through turntables or modern decks. It's not someone who lives an intentionally sinful life and plays Christian music at events for compensation only. A Christian DJ is someone who has been called by God, gifted by God and anointed by God with the purpose of enlarging His kingdom and provide a service outside of the four walls of the church -- although often times inside as well! It is someone who is a Christian, fears God, loves people and wants to serve God through the talent and gift God has deposited in that person. Let me try all that in one sentence... "A Christian DJ is a God-fearing, people-loving, anointed and skilled servant of God with the calling to enlarge His kingdom through the mixing of music that is uplifting, inspiring and reinvigorating to those who hear it!" How's that? Fair definition? Now, this is considering the fact of several types of DJs out there. For example, we strive in DJing Christian Weddings, Sweet 16's, High School Proms and Formals, etc. Therefore, our style if DJing is much different than a youth event, block party, outreach Christian DJ. Nevertheless, we strictly enforce with our clients the music selections for these formal events. Our standards as Christians will not be compromised by any event we agree and choose to host.
In conclusion, (my high school teacher would be proud of me for still using this phrase), after much consideration, much thought, much analysis and self-examining, I believe that a Christian DJ is someone who was set aside by God for specific calling -- to enlarge His kingdom through music! Stay blessed, ya'll!!
